Attacks will go directly forward into the upper torso, I don't think it has any particular positive effect on blocking here.
Go to the baths get the full wench course and then knock out the wench and then start looting, chests and her. It is advised you do not kill in Rattay at this point, there's just more demerit for it, knocking out people who don't see you is better.
